Bristol Chapter

Meets at the Somerset Public Library in Bristol County, Massachusetts, on the third Saturday afternoon of the month at 1:00 P.M. from September to June.

MSOG is made up of chapters throughout Massachusetts: Bristol, Martha's Vineyard, Merrimack Valley, Middlesex, and Worcester. Each chapter has its own governing board of officers, an annual meeting, and an election. Each chapter is a member of the state board and is represented by the chapter's president. Chapters do not meet during the months of July and August.

If you didn't have time to do any research, come to our meeting to get inspired and motivated. This meeting will also be a good time to meet our members and you just might find one of your long, lost relatives. It has happened at some of our meetings. October 15 at 1:00 p.m. Patricia M. Stano-Carpenter, President of MSOG, Inc. will present, "Getting Into Genealogy." This free introductory presentation will provide sufficient information on how to get started in Genealogy and family history. Pat has been researching the Genealogy of family, friends and the public since the mid 1980's. If you are new to Genealogy, this is a program you shouldn't miss. November 19 The Bristol County Chapter will meet on Saturday, November 19 at 1:00 P.M. at the Somerset Public Library, 1464 County St. (Rt. 138), Somerset. If you are a member or just a visitor who has an artifact or something of interest from one of your ancestors that has a story, please bring it to share with all of us. If you are a beginner and new to genealogy, members will be available to help get you started. If you just need some help solving a problem, we will be available to help with your research. February 18 Janis Duffy will be speaking on "How to Begin Your Irish Research." Janis Duffy is an avid Genealogist. She has been researcing her roots for over 25years. Janis is a past President of Tiara (The Irish Ancestral Research Association) and has led many tours to Ireland and Salt Lake City with Tiara. She worked for 18 years at the Massachusetts State Archives and is currently at Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay. Somerset Public Library, 1464 County St. (Rt. 138), Somerset, MA
March 17 Donna L. (Edmonds) Mitchell will speak to the Bristol Chapter. She is a Southeastern New England American Indian of Wampanoag, Cherokee and African descent residing on her maternal ancestral lands of Watuppa Reservation in Fall River, MA. Known amongst her peoples as Words in the Winds, with translation in the Algonquian language as Minoweh Ikidowin (Cloud in the Wind), she is a graduate of Johnson and Wales University with a degree in Business Administration. She is also a graduate of Bryant College's Human Resources Certificate Program. Ms. Mitchell is committed to her Southeastern New England aboriginal communities and dedicated to researching and connecting the historical roots of her American Indian and African American ancestries by giving voice and honor to her ancestors through the sharing of her own personal life stories with original works of poetry and short stories. As a seasoned poet and storyteller her works have been published in the C.L.R James Journal, The Radical Philosophy Journal, the Ethiomedia, and many local and national community newsletters and self-published magazines. She has also presented her Spoken Word works in such venues as the Boston Museum, the Isabelle Gardner Stewart Museum, the Norman Rockwell Museum, the University of Rhode Island-Providence Campus, the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Temple University, many local Native American PowWow gatherings and Southeastern New England historical societies, private/public elementary and secondary schools as well as various arts and community organizations. April 21 Bonnie Mendes, Director of the Somerset Public Library will speak about the facilities that the library has to offer for researching genealogy.
