The Martha’s Vineyard Island Chapter of MSOG has only had a few meetings so far and is still in the process of assessing the needs and interests of our members and determining an initial direction. There is a general consensus that the majority would prefer to concentrate on workshop or general discussion meetings that focus more on helping each other, especially the novices among us, to advance their research skills than on specific programs or lectures in the first six months.

During the second half of the year we have affirmed the following speakers with more details to be announced:
Ann Bassett will present a demonstration on interviewing relatives, gathering photos and other ephemera and creating a family history video.
Mary Jane Carpenter will speak on the necessity of keeping track of peripheral family groups and tracing those long lost cousins.
June Manning, a member of the Wampanoag Tribe of Aquinnah, will speak about documenting the tribal genealogy and sources for researching Martha’s Vineyard records.
Marna Waller will speak about the early European settlements and migration patterns of New England and New York.

The topic for the January meeting was genealogical software and many of those attending shared their experiences with various programs and their current preferences.

Meeting Times and dates will be posted monthly January to June as they become available or until a permanent schedule is in place
